#12

The last person to enter parliament with honest intentions was Guy Fawkes.

And, quite possibly, Jeremy Corbyn.

Folding Compromise

For many years a lot of learned people spent way too much time pontificating or defending the number of times a piece of paper could be folded in half. In the end, it comes down to the original size of the piece of paper and just how much power you have available to lift the ends and make it bend when the folded result gets very thick.

Compromise can be regarded as an exercise in folding in half. Because if you compromise, you lose something. You are folding yourself, diminishing yourself in some way.

Now it may be given willingly. For example; in any healthy partnership, both sides compromise and restore their lost ‘area’ by merging with their partner. Each is redeemed by the other. No diminishment.

But when you’re made to compromise, or tricked into compromise, something of you is reduced without restoration. I look at the way that the government is treating the people of the UK and wonder: How many times can you inveigle us into compromise? How many more times will we fold before you? More importantly, how long before you cannot find the power to make us fold again? Because I can see it coming. Very slowly. We’re British, after all. Rapid just will not do. We’re vellum rather than cheaper woodstock, if you will. 😀

Everything has its limits. I wonder when the populations who underpin western ‘civilisation’ will finally reach theirs?
